The Culture at Cause and FX? It’s Kind of a Big Deal.
SEPTEMBER 8 2025
Yes, we’re a visual effects studio. Yes, we work on epic projects for screens big and small. But we’re also the kind of place where a badly drawn stick figure can spark a heated debate (and a whole lot of laughter). Where Friday quiz night legends are made. And where being good to people is just as important as being good at what you do.
At Cause and FX, culture isn’t an afterthought – it’s what powers us.
Midwinter, but Not Mid-Spirit
When July hits, so does our Mid-Year Get Together. This highly anticipated event is a great chance for our team to relax , unwind and connect outside the studio. This year we headed to Takapuna Surf Club for a night of great food, good company, and plenty of laughs.
Whether you’re deep in a project sprint or between shots, these moments of connection help remind us why we do what we do – and who we do it with.
Quiz Time, the CFX Way
Friday afternoons quizzes are a team favourite. Events like these are a reminder that creativity and humour aren’t limited to client work – they’re baked into our culture.
Talitha’s “Badly Drawn Movie Posters” quiz has quickly become legend around here. Equal parts hilarious and competitive, it’s one of those quirky traditions that just… stuck. We’ve covered everything from superheroes and video games to mythical creatures, beer, and even types of hats.
“The quiz was started as a way for the team to get together at week’s end during lockdown and do something fun so everyone could still feel connected while they were separated. Since then, it’s kept both our in-studio and remote crew members feeling part of the same team. It’s become a beloved weekly tradition – a chance to share a cheeky beer, send off teammates in style, and give each week a funny, relaxed finish.” – Robbie Limm, VFX Coordinator.
The tradition has carried on and evolved over time, but its purpose remains the same – connection.
“By doing quizzes, we celebrate our diverse interests, share our vast random knowledge, and even practice our public-speaking skills if you’re lucky enough to be picked as a quizmaster! I’m a geek when it comes to trivia, so Friday Quiz is one of my favourite parts of working here.” – Talitha Marisa, Compositing Artist

A Culture Grounded in Core Values
Our values aren’t just words on a wall, they’re how we hire, lead, and collaborate every day. They show up in the way we solve problems, give feedback, celebrate wins, and look after each other.
“When we’re hiring, we’re not just assessing skills, we’re looking for people who are naturally curious, collaborative, and confident being themselves. Our values are a lens we use in every conversation from the first interview to day-to-day feedback we are constantly reflecting on what great looks like at Cause & FX and how we show up and bring our values to life every day.” Sneha Bhula, People and Culture Manager.
Inclusive, Supportive, Human
We know VFX can be intense. That’s why wellbeing, inclusion, and support aren’t side projects – they’re priorities. Whether it’s flexibility, recognition, or simply making sure everyone has a voice, we’re always looking for ways to make Cause and FX a great place to be.
Here are just a few of the ways we do that:
- Flexibility built in: We recognise that life doesn’t always fit neatly around work. Whether it’s family commitments, working from home, or simply needing to juggle the unexpected, we offer flexibility to make it work.
- Quarterly wellbeing allowance: Every three months, our crew receive a wellbeing allowance to spend on anything that “fills their cup” from pilates, yoga, and gym memberships to therapy, massages, or other activities that recharge you and help you bring your best self to work and home.
- 15Five check-ins: Weekly check-ins with 15Five keep a finger on the pulse of how our people are doing. It’s a space to reflect on the week, share wins and challenges, and make sure feedback flows both ways.
- Employee Spotlight: Each month, one crew member is celebrated with a $100 voucher, nominated by peers via virtual high fives in 15Five for modelling our values. It’s our way of recognising and celebrating the people who make Cause and FX what it is.
