Women in VFX: Teresa Sana’s Journey to Leadership
MARCH 3 2025
In the world of Women in VFX, leadership roles are still underrepresented—but that’s changing. Teresa Sana is part of that shift. As Lead Roto & Prep Artist at Cause and FX. Teresa is not only delivering high-calibre work but also mentoring the next generation of artists. Her journey is one of resilience, leadership, and excellence, making her the perfect highlight for International Women’s Day.
A Career Built on Passion and Perseverance
“I’ve always been fascinated by animation,” Teresa shares. Her career in VFX began in 2009, spanning India and New Zealand. After a brief break, she decided to return—starting fresh, and has been making her mark ever since.
That’s when she found Cause and FX, in Auckland, New Zealand.
“I had been following the team for a while, admiring their work and achievements. When I reached out, it just clicked.”
Since joining, Teresa has worked on major projects, including the Lord of the Rings series, where her skills in roto and prep were recognised at the highest level.
She credits Greg Flannagan (Managing Director) and Paul Dickson (VFX Supervisor) as key mentors along the way:
“I had the privilege of working closely with two inspiring individuals, Greg and Paul, who have been incredibly supportive of my growth.”
Life at Cause and FX: Leading with Excellence
For Teresa, leadership isn’t just about delivering quality—it’s about building others up.
“Working in a close-knit team where everyone respects and uplifts each other makes all the difference.”
Puteri Raja Ariff, Head of Production at Cause and FX, speaks highly of Teresa’s impact:
“Teresa has been a fantastic mentor, always available for guidance. She truly embodies ‘We Are in This Together’—lifting up others while delivering top-tier work.”
Beyond mentorship, Teresa is also an innovator, consistently improving processes to make the team’s work smoother and more efficient.
“We can always count on Teresa to give us a straight answer—sometimes just with a look! Her commitment to ‘Excellence by Design’ makes her an invaluable part of the team.”
