Ambrose didn’t follow the usual path into leadership. He began in game design, drawn to world-building and storytelling. But somewhere along the way, film pulled him in.

“I’m a competitive person,” he laughs. “But what drives me isn’t beating anyone else – it’s finding ways for our team to do things better, faster, smarter. I love the challenge of improvement.”

That mix of creativity and competitiveness shaped his career. Moving from the technical side of animation into producing, and now into Business Development, felt like a natural evolution, a chance to connect the dots between artistry and opportunity.

Business development, redefined

Ask Ambrose what Business Development means at Cause and FX, and his answer is simple: partnerships, not pitches.

“We’re not here to sell a service,” he says. “We’re here to collaborate, to understand what a director or producer is trying to achieve and figure out how we can make it happen.”

That philosophy has shaped how the studio engages with clients, from the earliest creative conversations through to post-production. “The best results come when we’re involved early,” he explains. “You can help shape the look, test ideas, build trust. Everyone wins when the collaboration starts at the concept stage.”

A lifelong love of story

Ambrose’s relationship with film runs deep. He still remembers the thrill of weekly trips to United Video with his family, stacking DVDs into a plastic basket and racing home to watch them all.

“My all-time favourite film is Inception,” he says without hesitation. “It captures everything I love about cinema – layers of meaning, emotion, and the freedom for every viewer to take something different from it.”

That same passion shows up in his work. “When The Rings of Power came out, a bunch of us gathered every week to watch the new episodes. Everyone would shout when their shots appeared on screen. That feeling, that shared pride, that’s what this industry’s about.”

Collaboration as a competitive edge

For Ambrose, collaboration isn’t a soft skill, it’s a strategic one. “We’re an independent studio with global VFX experience. That means we can move fast, stay flexible, and work really closely with our clients. Agility is our advantage.”

He pauses, then adds: “But it only works because of the people. We’ve built a culture where artists, producers, and clients can all speak openly. That’s the real edge. The trust to experiment and the commitment to deliver.”

It’s a perspective that feels refreshingly human in an industry often driven by scale and speed. Ambrose brings it back to the basics: empathy, communication, and shared vision.

“The technology keeps changing,” he says, “but the heart of it stays the same. Film is about people – and that’s what Business Development should be about too.”
