The Wrecking Crew set to land on Prime Video this January
JANUARY 14 2026
Sunshine, Hawaiian shirts and a murder mystery leading to one of the world’s largest crime syndicates? It’s Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa on the case in the buzz-worthy buddy cop action-comedy, The Wrecking Crew.
“I was eager to partner again with the Cause and FX team after a great experience working with them on Time Bandits. On The Wrecking Crew, the team handled some really fun sequences and again proved to be a brilliant collaborator. They delivered great looking shots that supported story while remaining authentic and grounded, which is no small feat on a show that often walks the line between heightened action, realism and comedy.
They understood when to push things and just as importantly when not to. What really stood out was how transparent and responsive they were throughout the entire process. I always knew where a shot stood and what was coming next. It may seem trivial but that level of clarity makes an enormous difference through the sort of compressed delivery we had. Cause and FX are a pleasure to work with and I look forward to the next one!”
– Will Reece, Visual Effects Producer.
Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, The Wrecking Crew centres on estranged half-brothers Jonny and James, forced back together following their father’s death and drawn into a wider criminal conspiracy. Set against the backdrop of Hawaii, the film blends character-driven storytelling with large-scale action, combining humour, brotherly tension, and spectacle.
Landing exclusively on Prime Video on 28 January, our team at Cause and FX are keen to see the finished film released. Working alongside the wider production and post-production teams, Cause and FX contributed visual effects work that supports the film’s fast-paced, action-driven world.
“This project gave the team the opportunity to enhance a number of sequences with work that included hero face replacements, stunt and effects augmentation, and digital gore.
In service of the filmmakers vision, these had to be subtle and seamless with the live action elements. The goal being to have the digital effects support and enhance what the production had shot, to keep the audience immersed in the action and gags,” explained Thrain Shadbolt, Visual Effects Supervisor, Cause and FX.
A global production pipeline
The project forms part of an increasingly global production pipeline, with Cause and FX collaborating closely with international creative and post-production teams to deliver work that supports the final film.
“There’s been a real buzz around the studio waiting to watch this one,” says Greg Flannagan, Managing Director.
“Projects like this are a reminder of how collaborative modern filmmaking has become. The team enjoyed contributing to the film, and it’s always rewarding to see that work come together on screen.”
Heading into 2026, we’re continuing to see effects-driven storytelling across streaming platforms. Projects like The Wrecking Crew reflect the increasingly global nature of film production – and the role New Zealand studios play within it. For the team at Cause and FX, contributing to international features of this scale reinforces an ongoing commitment to delivering world-class visual effects for productions around the globe.
