Twisted Metal Season 2 Launches, VFX by Cause and FX
AUGUST 25 2025
Twisted Metal is back for a second season, bringing all the vehicular combat, dark comedy, and post-apocalyptic chaos fans have come to expect from the hit Peacock series.
Season 2 is rolling out weekly rather than dropping all at once, giving audiences time to soak in the madness as it unfolds. The new season premiered on 31 July, with episodes released weekly through to the season finale at the end of August. According to NBC Insider, the staggered release marks a shift from Season 1’s binge-style drop, extending the tournament-driven storyline over five explosive weeks.
For Cause and FX, season two marked a return to the Twisted Metal universe as a trusted VFX partner, delivering complex, character-driven visual effects across some of the show’s most ambitious sequences. Our team worked closely with Sony Pictures Television and the creative leads to bring iconic characters including Axel and Minion to life, balancing technical complexity with performance, realism, and cinematic impact within a television schedule.
Early collaboration played a key role in shaping the work. Through previs and design exploration ahead of shooting, we helped inform how characters would be realised on screen, earning the trust to take on some of the heaviest VFX lifting across the season.
From fully digital character work to invisible effects designed to seamlessly support the action, the project required a considered, end-to-end approach across asset creation, rigging, animation, FX, lighting, and compositing.
“Season 2 of Twisted Metal presented substantial logistical, technical, and creative challenges that required the expertise of a world-class visual effects studio,” said Joshua Spivack, VFX Supervisor at Sony Pictures Television.
